Art to Science

Yesterday I visited the Fry Gallery in Saffron Waldon and went to listen to a talk by James Russell - the author of the Ravilious in… series. It was simply, marvelous, and  I can thoroughly recommend a journey that way to see the wonderful Great Bardfield’s Artists work in the flesh. This piece is Lindsell Church, a simply enormous linocut by Edward Bawden, supposedly printed by driving a Rolls Royce over the print!

Sketch Book Experiments

Magpie Jack

Some experiments in my sketchbook, I was getting bored of doing very tightly controlled line work and I’m pretty pleased with the results. It’s nice to shake things up a little sometimes.

Font

font2

I believe I first saw this font on a piece of Ravilious’ work but for the life of me I cannot find it anywhere I search. Since then I was bought the most amazing book from Pallant House called A Handbook of Type and Illustration. It just so happened this font was contained within its foxed pages. I have used it for a client’s brief for personalised stationery. But the most amazing thing was whilst perusing the bookshop it caught my eye on the front cover of Peepo, a book that has been around me ever since I was born and one I truly treasure. It truly is a very small world.
